Phillips Reimagines Landscapes at June 2022 Hong Kong Auctions

Phillips has revealed the full lineup for its Hong Kong Sales of 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design, which commences with the Day Sale on 21 June and continues with the Evening Sale on 22 June.

'Our Evening Sale spans over 100 years of art history and includes Pierre-Auguste Renoir's delicate 1902 La paysanne au panier, and David Hockney's seminal 1965 Painted Landscape, as well as highly desirable works by exciting new market stars such as Ernie Barnes, Ouattara Watts, and Scott Kahn,' said Jonathan Crockett, Phillips' Asia Chairman.

The works by Renoir and Hockney are part of a showcase entitled 'Landscapes Reimagined' that features artists from around the globe.

Other pieces from 'Landscapes Reimagined' include Ed Ruscha's mountain obscured by a window frame Spied Upon Scene: Window (2017), Hernan Bas' Who Told Them We Were Coming? (2013), Shara Hughes' Over the Overcast (2015), and Liu Ye's Boy With Red Glass (1998).

Another work to watch is George Condo's Transparent Female Forms (2009), which leads the Evening Sale. The work is one of Condo's first Drawing Paintings, which combines elements of both art practices.

Isaure de Viel Castel, Head of 20th Century & Contemporary Art at Phillips Hong Kong, also drew attention to a strong cohort of female artists featured in the sales.

'The Evening and Day Sales champion a rich diversity of female artists from the contemporary scene, including artists such as Lucy Bull, Issy Wood, and Anna Park, each with her own distinct style and artistic vocabulary,' she said.

All of the works in Phillips' Hong Kong Sales of 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design this month will be available to view in person at the JW Marriott in Hong Kong from 18 to 22 June.
