About Auckland Art Fair 2019

Auckland Art Fair, New Zealand’s premier showcase for contemporary art, takes place from Wednesday 1st – Sunday 5th May at The Cloud on Auckland’s Queens Wharf.

This year’s fair will feature an incredible line-up of 41 participating galleries from across New Zealand and Australia, the Pacific, Hong Kong, China and as far as Chile exhibiting significant work from well-known and emerging artists.

The event, which now runs annually, has established its place in the New Zealand Arts scene under the directorship of Stephanie Post and Hayley White. The high caliber of local and international artists, many of whom are creating new work for the Fair is a testament to the reputation Post and White have built for the event since their first Fair in 2016.

“We are incredibly pleased to have established a platform where the breadth and diversity of some of the best art and artists working in our region can be showcased” says Auckland Art Fair Co-Director, Stephanie Post. This year’s Fair will see work from over 150 artists, from countries including New Zealand, Australia, Tonga, Samoa, China and Hong Kong, Indonesia, Spain, Germany, UK, Japan, Sierra Leone, Chile and Israel attract an estimated crowd of over 10,000 people to Auckland’s Queens Wharf.

Alongside the galleries in the main section of the Fair, we will also see the return of Piki Mai: Up Here –, an area of the Fair that features young galleries and artist run spaces. First introduced in 2018, Piki Mai: Up Here – is located on the mezzanine level of The Cloud and offers a snapshot of artists whose work could appear at future art fairs.
