Company History

Founded in 2010 by New Zealanders Simon Fisher and Christopher Taylor, Ocula was created with a clear vision: to elevate exceptional contemporary art and make it more accessible to collectors and professionals around the world. From its early beginnings in New Zealand, Ocula recognised the importance of a global perspective—expanding to Hong Kong in 2012 and launching its digital platform in 2013 alongside the inaugural Art Basel Hong Kong. This positioned Ocula at the forefront of the art world’s shift beyond its traditional Western focus.

With over 75 years of combined experience in the international art market, the team behind Ocula has built lasting relationships based on trust, integrity, and a deep understanding of the evolving needs of galleries, collectors, and institutions. The platform is known for its agile, ideas-led approach, and its highly curated editorial content, which consistently highlights new voices and emerging directions in contemporary art—particularly across the Asia Pacific region.

Ocula expanded into the Northern Hemisphere in 2015 with the opening of its first London office, further strengthening its international presence. In 2022, Ocula moved its headquarters to 21 Bruton Street, London—a move that reflects its growing influence at the heart of the global art market.

In 2025, Ocula relaunched with an updated brand and website, offering enhanced functionality designed to deepen user engagement and spotlight the exceptional programmes of its gallery members. Through continuous innovation and a commitment to inclusivity and excellence, Ocula remains a leading voice in the global contemporary art conversation.
