Ruangrupa is an artist collective established in 2000. Organisers as well as practitioners, Ruangrupa’s activities are many and varied, including operating a non-profit space in Jakarta, running the international video festival OK Video, publishing the journal Karbon, and organising workshops and residencies. Their practice hinges on critical engagement with ‘the city’ as both an idea and a physical environment. Their spontaneous, experimental projects are characterised by cultural exchange, renegade creativity, and the construction of narratives in which personal experience, imagination and memory hold as much authority as official history.
The list remains overwhelmingly dominated by people, institutions and movements in the Western world.
