While other global galleries have opened or expanded spaces in South Korea in recent years, Gagosian is dipping its toe with an exhibition at beauty brand Amorepacific's project space.

Gagosian will soon present their first exhibition in Korea.
Derrick Adams: The Strip will open in the headquarters of Korean beauty brand Amorepacific on 3 September, alongside the third edition of Frieze Seoul, and continue through 12 October.
Gagosian is the first gallery to present an exhibition in Amorepacific Museum of Art's (APMA) ground floor project space, APMA Cabinet. The museum has previously exhibited artists such as Lawrence Weiner and Andreas Gursky.
'We are thrilled to be hosting our inaugural exhibition in Seoul, which builds upon last year's appointment of Jiyoung Lee to lead the gallery's operations in Korea,' said Nick Simunovic, senior director at Gagosian.
Born in Baltimore in 1970, Derrick Adams lives and works in New York. Gagosian announced its representation of the artist in March 2023.
In keeping with the unusual site of the exhibition, Adams' latest series of paintings were inspired by the display windows of beauty supply stores near his Brooklyn studio and around the world.
In the painting Where My Girls At? (2024), a group of wigged mannequins are gathered in a shop window. Seen from inside the store, they're backed by crisp reflections in the glass, views of the pavement, and bright yellow road markings.
As well as paintings, the exhibition will feature two sculptures made with mannequin heads and wigs. —[O]
