Sean Kelly is delighted to return to The Armory Show at the Javits Center in Hudson Yards. Our booth will feature a dynamic selection of paintings, sculptures, photographs and works on paper by the gallery's international roster of artists including Anthony Akinbola, Dawoud Bey, James Casebere, Julian Charrière, Jose Dávila, Awol Erizku, Laurent Grasso, Candida Höfer, Callum Innes, Idris Khan, Hugo McCloud, Landon Metz, Mariko Mori, Sam Moyer, Shahzia Sikander, Janaina Tschäpe and Kehinde Wiley. In this year's Armory Show Platforms Section, curated by writer and curator Eva Respini, Shahzia Sikander's sculpture NOW, 2023, will be prominently displayed.
Just one block away from the Javits Center, Sean Kelly, New York, will present its first solo exhibition of new works by Awol Erizku. Titled Delirium of Agony, it will open on Friday, September 8 from 6-8 pm and be on view through October 21, 2023. This exhibition examines the construct of cultural iconography through the lens of contemporary hip-hop, street culture, art history, sports, and entertainment. Occupying the entire gallery, it will feature paintings, neon installations, photographs, sculptures, and works on paper. On Saturday, September 9, from 2-3 pm, Sean Kelly Gallery and Aperture will host a book signing of Awol Erizku's first monograph, Mystic Parallax, at the gallery. The Armory Show announces its curators for the 2023 Platform and Focus sections and the Curatorial Leadership Summit:
Eva Respini, Deputy Director and Director of Curatorial Programs at Vancouver Art Gallery, will curate the Platform section; Candice Hopkins, Director and Chief Curator of Forge Project, will curate the Focus section; and Adrienne Edwards, Engell Speyer Family Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Whitney Museum of American Art, will chair the sixth annual Curatorial Leadership Summit.
