In the first edition of the DnA Shenzhen Design & Art Fair, TKG+ explores the theme 'Memory of the South Island,' incorporating notions of inheritance and addition that accompany the '+' symbol into its contextual lineage. Through the brilliant creations of Thai artist Mit Jai Inn, TKG+ delves into the nuanced distinctions and parallels between the contemporary aesthetic expressions of different Asian cultures.
Since founding the Chiang Mai Social Installation Project in 1992, distinguished Thai artist Mit Jai Inn has been prolific throughout Southeast Asia and Europe. He will be presenting his signature abstract paintings, which have garnered international acclaim since his groundbreaking display at the 2018 Sydney Biennale. With his intuitive application of exquisite primary colors - in tandem with his techniques of stacking and pulling pigments to form dense, organic textures across his canvases - Mit Jai Inn produces paintings that exude bold and spirited sentiments from the South Island. His creative practice is a physical and meditative process in which he creates visions of light, shadow, and colour traveling through time. His works are a testament to the unique and diverse styles of Southeast Asian artists spearheading the wave of contemporary art globalisation.
Since its establishment in Taipei in 2009, TKG+ has been committed to supporting experimental, innovative, and critical contemporary art, encouraging experimentation across diverse aesthetic mediums, and creating links that spark rich intersectional dialogue. For the inaugural edition of DnA Shenzhen, TKG+ is pleased to present an artist whose striking interpretations of pure aesthetics, form, and sensory experience guide viewers through a riveting experience of contemporary art exploration. Contributing his unique visual vocabulary to the lexicon of contemporary art, Mit Jai Inn will invigorate DnA Shenzhen with a fertile and diverse spirit.
