Timothy Taylor is pleased to present a solo stand of works by Shanghai-based artist Ding Yi.
The group of works presented, paintings and works on paper, are from Ding Yi's ongoing series, 'Appearance of Crosses', which he began as a student at Shanghai University in the late 80's.
Consisting of complex, shifting sequences of the two marks x and +; the paintings and works on paper systematically question the relationship between the surface and the optical plane. The individual crosses develop into expansive networks of mark-making; super-structure paintings which mirror the fast-paced development of the industrial urban environment in post-socialist China.
