STATION is delighted to present the work of four contemporary artists who consistently explore the complex dialogue between humanity and the natural environment. Through their harmonious use of earthy materials and colour palettes their works contribute to a unified presentation to transport the viewer to a new environment where sense of self and the natural world are symbiotic.
Adam Lee’s painting and drawing practice ties together narratives of memory, imagination and transcendence. His work references a wide range of sources including historical and family photographs, spiritual narratives, natural history, and contemporary music, film and literature to investigate aspects of the human condition in relation to ideas of temporal and supernatural worlds.
Jahnne Pasco-White’s expanded painting practice explores the interconnectedness between humans and our environment. Hand dyed fabrics pigmented with organic materials gathered from her surroundings—including domestic debris and matter collected from the natural environment—are complemented by acrylic paint, oil stick, pastel and crayon.
Isadora Vaughan’s works encourage audiences to reflect on and foster a sense of connection with nature. Vaughan’s stand-alone sculptural works are characterised by tensions between materiality and form, and often bring together readymade and industrial objects with rich organic matter.
Jake Walker’s practice is a self-consciously continuous process of creation, with the goal to make paintings with personality, self-sufficiency and autonomy. His intimately scaled paintings are essentially abstract, yet imbued with an awareness of the messiness of life, revelling in the tactility and resourcefulness of the handmade, in opposition to modern systems of mass-production. His handmade ceramic frames expose an embrace of raw materials, rejecting clean, hard edges in favour of rugged and organic forms.
