PHOTOFAIRS New York to Launch in September 2023
The new fair was created by the founders of PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, who acquired a 25% stake in Photo London in February this year.

A new fair devoted to photography will hold its inaugural edition alongside the Armory Show at the Javits Center from 8 to 10 September 2023.
PHOTOFAIRS New York will gather 80 to 100 galleries presenting everything from fine art photography to video, VR, and NFTs, according to organisers Creo.
Taking its name from the Latin for 'I create', Creo is an events company led by CEO Scott Gray that began with the establishment of the World Photography Organisation in 2007.
Its projects include the Sony World Photography Awards, the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, and a 25% stake in Photo London, whose founders have also taken a 10% stake in PHOTOFAIRS New York.
'As we continue to do more in the contemporary art sphere, and more recently in film, it became evident it was time for a rebrand,' Gray told Ocula Magazine.
'As Creo we can better communicate about this diversified programme, centred around our mission: to develop opportunities and form spaces where creatives can thrive,' he said.
PHOTOFAIRS New York is being launched in partnership with Angus Montgomery Arts, whose offerings have ballooned in recent years to include not just PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai and Photo London but the India Art Fair, Taipei Dangdai, Art Düsseldorf, and two more fairs that are launching next year: Art SG and Tokyo Gendai.
'Photo-based works and fine art photography have always been a key part of the Angus Montgomery Arts portfolio of contemporary art fairs, and we're excited to be expanding our rota and by the opportunities that New York represents for the group,' said Sandy Angus, Chairman of Angus Montgomery Arts and Creo, in a statement.
New York already has a packed calendar of art fairs, but Gray believes PHOTOFAIRS New York will provide something new.
'Although New York is the centre of the world's art and photography market, at this point in time there is no art fair in the city specifically dedicated to contemporary fine art photography, digital, and video art,' he said. 'While NFTs and video art flourish on the local primary market, there is additionally no fair which caters specifically to this dynamic new scene.'
Asked why now is the right time to launch a New York photo fair, Gray said interest in fine art photography has grown 'significantly' over the past ten years, with more and more artists pushing the boundaries of the medium. —[O]
