Press Release

David Zwirner is pleased to announce that Hilma af Klint’s Tree of Knowledge, 1913–1915, has been acquired by Glenstone Museum. This series, which comprises eight works, was on view at David Zwirner’s 34 East 69th Street location in New York from November 4, 2021, to January 29, 2022, and will be on view at David Zwirner’s London gallery from March 2 to April 2, 2022, before going to its permanent home in Maryland.

This will be a singular opportunity for London audiences to experience the artist’s revelatory work, and follows the major presentation at the Serpentine Galleries in 2016.

About the Artist

Defying expectations of what it meant to be a woman in art at the start of the 20th century, Swedish artist Hilma af Klint’s work pre-dated abstractionism. However, she kept her paintings hidden, assuming the world would not understand her spiritually influenced, theosophy inspired works.
