Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel’s presentation at Paris+ par Art Basel 2023 builds upon a multidimensional repertoire of organicforms, imagery, and representations of environments and natural phenomena. Anderson Borba, Marina Rheingantz andJanaina Tschäpe’s sculptures and paintings, respectively, employ an array of surface incidents – from scrapes to incisions, collages and winding oil-stick inscriptions – evoking geologic and climatic processes such as erosion, sedimentation, windfall or rainstorms. In the late Afro-Caribbean painter Frank Walter’s small-scale landscapes on cardboard, the physicalworld is depicted through tactile, agile brushstrokes, forming a compendium of dissolving, unstable vistas. In the new acrylicand oil monotypes by Luiz Zerbini, pressed plants, leaves and stems lend their contours to vibrant compositions in vividcolor grades, suggesting a fusion of biomorphic forms and technical human agency, framed in meticulously painted graphicframes. Mauro Restiffe highlights the architectural particularities of a project by Oscar Niemeyer, giving its dense concretelines a diaphanous, almost transparent quality, while allowing the surrounding greenery to reflect on the window panes andblend into the constructed space. Erika Verzutti’s Silent Migration is a bronze relief that the artist paints over with oil paint, rendering a prehistoric scene in a fittingly mineral support, in which anonymous creatures spring up amidst a primevalocean, recalling archaic, immense spatiotemporal scales on Earth.
