YU KAWASHIMA
b. 1988, JapanKawashima is one of the most promising talents who bear the future of cotemporary Japanese painting. He carries on the torch of traditional techniques simultaneously breathes life into the tradition. His distinctive impersonal portraits drawn by the monotone texture with sensitive brush stroke gets to the heart of modern society. Graduates from Aichi University of the Arts in 2013 and continues the graduate program in Japanese painting there. Wins 68th Inten exhibition for the first time. In the following year, receives the Grand Prix Award and the Audience Prize at Sompo Japan Art Award FACE 2014. The prize wining work, TOXIC has been acquired by Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art. In 2015, first solo exhibition at Whitestone Gallery, Tokyo. His works also appear consecutively in the art fairs in Hong Kong Taiwan, Shanghai, etc.
