Press Release

Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel is pleased to announce the exhibition_Onda Avalanche Vulcão_, a collaborative photographic series by Mauro Restiffe and Maria Manoella, opening on August 30th, 2025, in São Paulo.

This new body of work presents a nuanced exploration of the relationship between the human body and the natural landscape. The series includes intimate, erotic portraits alongside photographs of expansive environments traversed by the artists, registering desire and time as key elements of image-making. Together, these photographs establish a symbolic dialogue between corporeality and the forces of nature.

The images depict bodies revealed and suggested, serving as metaphors for the transformative processes observed in the natural world. Snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, geysers, and rock formations appear alongside these figures, invoking ideas of desire and eruption through their visceral changes. Both sex and these wild landscapes imply a degree of volatility and uncontrollability.

Central to the series is the emphasis on sensory experience as a means of engaging with the world. Eroticism appears as an effect of texture and light, joined with the physical drama of amorous contact and atmospheric presence. The intimate sphere of tactile involvement and suggestions of touch and feeling interact with the vast physical and temporal dimensions of landscapes, shaping the sensual correspondences between human and geological form.

An eponymous artist’s book, published by Familia Editions, will be launched on the day of the opening (30.08).
