Jhaveri Contemporary presents eight artists at Art Mumbai who, taken together, consider the urban uncanny. While working across various methods — and often with unusual materials — each is engaged with the oddities of the everyday. Central to the display are the images of photographer Raghubir Singh which capture quintessential moments in ordinary life from unconventional perspectives. It is common materials that Prakhabar Kamble and Permindar Kaur skew and reconfigure into majestic, almost surreal, sculptures, while Gaurav Gupta, Rana Begum, and Lubna Chowdhary abstract familiar landscapes and architectures. Deities too, which are ubiquitously encountered, are transformed by Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and Sayan Chanda.
