This exhibition took place at our previous 537 West 24th St, New York location.
Featuring sculptures created between 2011 and 2020, this exhibition marks the first presentation of Alexander’s recent works since his passing in 2020 and his first solo show with Pace Gallery. A key figure in the art scene in Los Angeles, where he was born, Alexander started making his iconic cast polyester resin sculptures in the 1960s, a period in which he became a leading artist of the California Light and Space movement. Pace’s exhibition features a selection of Alexander’s sculptures made of urethane, a material the artist incorporated into his practice in the early 2000s. His work is deeply engaged with geometry, the phenomenological effects of colour and light, and perspectival nuance, and Alexander is often associated with James Turrell, Robert Irwin, and Mary Corse, all of whom are part of the gallery’s program.
