Based in New Delhi, India, Rohini Devasher received her B.F.A (painting) from College of Art, New Delhi, and holds a Masters degree in Printmaking from the Winchester School of Art, UK. Devasher's works explore the possibilities contained within nature, where organisms are born, breed and multiply.
Standing at the threshold of art, science and fiction, her forms pulsates with primordial life, while simultaneously being precursors to a futuristic space. Devasher's imagery and practice mimic the processes of nature wherein an increasing complexity is built through layers and recursion.
Her videos take this exploration of morphology further by employing the generative qualities of video-feedback, to investigate self-reflexivity, especially when understood in the context of something that constantly recreates itself.
Her exhibition history includes: the Anant Art Centre, Noida, Project 88, Mumbai, the Korean
International Art Fair, Bose Pacia Gallery, Kolkata, Vadhera Art Gallery, Delhi, the Hong Kong Art Fair, Green Cardamom, London, the Scope Art Fair Basel, KHOJ Studios, New Delhi, Kitab Mahal, Mumbai, the Apeejay Media Gallery, the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, the British Library, London.
She has participated in several residencies and is an awardee of the Sarai Associate Fellowship and INLAKS Award.
