Sun Shine On is a painting project made this year in Whanganui a tara Wellington. It addresses the act of painting as a meditation on time, colour and light. It celebrates the solitary experience of perceiving sky, light and colour at the start of the day and as the sun goes down below the horizon at the end. The work is informed by study of Western, Eastern and local art practices in particular the role of abstraction as a contemplative means of reflecting on realities and perception.

About the Artist

Simon Morris’s work has developed from a critical interest in painting practice that stretches from object oriented paintings to site responsive wall drawing and site specific installation. The conceptual basis for his work comes from the history of abstraction and the relationship between abstraction and the everyday.

Opened in August 2006, Two Rooms presents a program of residencies and projects by leading International and New Zealand contemporary artists. The building houses two exhibition spaces, the Project Room and the Long Room.
