walk yoohoo, Baek Kyungho's solo exhibition at Space Willing N Dealing, Seoul, features his recent paintings on anthropomorphic canvases.
Space Willing N Dealing presents Baek Kyungho's solo exhibition walk yoohoo from 17 November to 8 December 2022. 'yoohoo' is an exclamation that comes out of the heart through instant experiences such as unexpected fun or pleasure, and is a term that reflects the speculative sensibility that comes out in the process of his painting. In this exhibition, Baek Kyungho presents the results of various attempts he has studied for balancing with the content while acquiring formal autonomy on the canvas since his individual exhibition at Space Willing N Dilling in 2019.
Baek Kyungho has created various styles of painting by boldly accepting unexpected changes through steady surface experiments. The series, known as the representative series, combines circular and square canvases into anthropomorphic forms and hangs them on the wall, which stand up using pedestal-type aids or lean against the wall and treat them. The round canvas simplifies the features and expression, while the square frame treated with the body part is filled with free brushwork. At the same time, the overall formability and image characteristics made the work recognisable as specific characters such as Angel, Aging, Clint Eastwood, and Smile Man. Recently, Baek Kyungho experimented with the texture and colour density of materials caused by repetition, such as regularly arranging and stacking repeated lines, faces, squares, or circular colours on canvases or frames of various sizes.
