Ethereal in the palette yet layered in the composition as a coating of gesso covers the raw canvas, Qingzhen Han’s eloquent abstract paintings possess a rare lyrical harmony. Qingzhen Han’s broad spectrum of carefully balanced gestures is a vehicle to convey a pure emotional state through the essentials of painting: the mark, the line and colour. She harnesses the inherent qualities of her materials, using their textural appeal to create layers and depth on the surface and to encourage emotive and subjective responses in the viewer.
Qingzhen Han (b. 1990, Dalian, China) lives and works in Beijing. In 2016, she completed an MA, Fine Art Department, at Goldsmiths College, University of London and in 2013 a BA in Printmaking from China Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. In 2013, Han was awarded First Prize at the CAFA show in Beijing. Her recent shows include Tang Contemporary Art, Beijing in 2017, Light Pavilion Project, Beijing, 2017; Today Art Museum, Beijing, 2017; Safe house 1, London, 2016; Ren/L’ Homme, Centre Artasia Paris, Paris; Sweden&China, Härnösands Arthall, Härnösands, Sweden, 2016.
