SCOTTSDALE ART WEEK

The exhibition includes a monumental photograph by American photographer David LaChapelle, The House at the End of the World (2005). The large-scale chromogenic print reflects LaChapelle’s signature cinematic style and visionary approach to photography.

A striking mixed media triptych by Lin Jingjing, Let it Shine (2023), incorporates acrylic, silk thread, and archival pigment print on canvas. The work merges intricate material processes with contemporary visual imagery and reflects Jingjing’s exploration of labor, materiality, and transformation.

The presentation also includes a work by Future Retrieval, the collaborative studio of artists Katie Parker and Guy Michael Davis. Their hand-cut paper works are created through a meticulous process that draws from archives, museum collections, and decorative arts history. Through this labor-intensive method, the artists reinterpret historical imagery and bring it into dialogue with the present.

Historic works by pioneering Arizona artist Beth Ames Swartz connect the presentation to the region’s artistic legacy. Swartz is known for incorporating unconventional materials including smoke, fire, ash, and candle wax into her paintings. Her work reflects a longstanding engagement with spirituality, ritual, and environmental themes.

Additional works include a painting by Caison Wang, the abstract canvas Galaxy (2021) by Rotraut, and a group of recent works by Lov-Lov, an AI generated artistic persona created by Lin Jingjing. These works explore contemporary questions surrounding technology, identity, and artistic authorship.

Together the presentation reflects de Sarthe Gallery’s commitment to presenting artists who move between cultures, materials, and generations while creating meaningful connections between historical practice and contemporary experimentation.
