The exhibition Just Another Myth offers an immersive journey where each piece seems to have emerged from an imaginary civilisation. Through frescoes and sculpted objects, Basile Boon invites viewers to embark on a bold exploration of fragments of forgotten histories and symbols drawn from dreams and fantasies. The atmosphere evokes a world in constant reconstruction, where ancient references intersect with mythological figures like Cybele, Dionysus, and Diana, in an ordered and poetic chaos.
The upper section of the exhibition, rich in detail and movement, reflects this creative effervescence, a sensory agitation that sweeps the observer into a visual and spiritual tumult. In the lower section, the artist shifts the tone, inviting a quieter, more meditative experience. His sacred objects impose a deep serenity, a quest for transcendence. Here, the artefacts appear to come from a lost civilisation, objects collected from another world and presented to be contemplated in the present moment. This passage invites the viewer to an inner connection, almost sacred, with the artwork.
Basile Boon (b. 1989, Namur, Belgium) is a visual artist whose work explores identity, mythology, and ancient symbols, while being firmly rooted in the present. After studying theatre and architecture, he initially turned to craftsmanship, experimenting with various mediums.
Describing himself as an eclectic artist, he combines diverse practices such as leatherwork, ceramics, and theatre. His artistic expression, often perceived as cathartic, brings to the surface emotions and questions buried since his childhood. Far from being limited to autofiction, he blends elements of mythology, archaeology, and religion with fragments of his own life. His works take the form of a three-dimensional epic, woven from narratives of ancient civilisations reimagined through his personal lens.
His creative approach is rooted in introspection and encounter, both with places and with viewers. In this way, he establishes a dialogue between the past and the contemporary, reinterpreting myths while addressing present-day realities.
Through his monumental works and more intimate creations, Basile Boon invites us to discover a universe where ceramics becomes a language in its own right, capable of telling stories, questioning space, and opening dialogues between the past, present, and imagination.
His work has been presented in various exhibitions, including his first solo exhibition Chaos et Désir, in collaboration with gallerists Juliette Seydoux, Vertige at Dumonteil in Paris, and YOUNG BELGIUM OPUS II: Fiction(s) at the Patinoire Royale in Brussels in 2023. He has also completed commissions for Villa Franca in Paris, Château François, and the Hermès window display in Megève in 2023.
