Hilo Chen’s M.B.S. (1996) is a rarely-exhibited body of work made during the decline of photorealism. Mimicking the tropes of POP arts and fashion—from the advertisement-like composition to the vivid color— M.B.S. continued Hilo’s subversive perception of realistic paintings to forge a new statement.

Antonia Kuo’s work is a miracle of making: photographs and image creating and tends to discuss the fast, overflowing images of our present. The unique silhouette achieved through a complex technique to devekop mixed media works that simultaneously carry photographic sharpness and abstract softness which look back at the past while questioning the future.

Egan Frantz, known for his abstract paintings from phenomenology, is presenting new paintings that animate the forms and lines present in art history. He thinks of painting as visual rhetoric similar to good writing in that succeeds in making an argument or telling a story in a convincing way.

Photographs by Wu MeiChi situate the surreal form within shadows of color and depictions of nature, while new works by Nishino Shohei, known for massive landscape collage with a documentary approach, are juxtaposed with vibrant paintings by Xu Jiong.The dialogues has deep biographical roots as well as the reflection of current international situations.

Each Modern is also very pleased to debuting Sao Paolo-based artist Lin YiHsuan’s new series Density , which will be continued to show at Gallery Weekend Beijing. Density is the distribution of elements settling visual rhythm and dynamic, harmony and stability. Lin explores the liberatedoriginality of painting to discuss its density aesthetically, showing the essence and authenticity that is undersocialized. Nowadays, the world has been decrypted, Density conveys the humans natures of wonders which has been long forgotten, and reminds us its supreme than technology, thematics, and knowledge.
