Galeria Filomena Soares presents She Who Tells a Story, focused on women artists who work the photographic, performance and video universe as their main means of expression. It features a selection of works from Helena Almeida, Shirin Neshat, Tracey Moffat, Susy Gomez, and Pilar Albarracín.
The exhibition brings together works with some particularities in their visual language, despite the aesthetical differences among themselves—the cultural commentary on the female community, their rights and the societies in which they operate. In some cases, there is also a self-representation relationship with the works and a projection of the imagination of each of the artists which allow us to identify social, racial and sexual obstacles, or work simply as a vehicle for a temporal and cultural positioning.
This exhibition aims to revisit works that essentially explore female manifestos by artists who continually contribute to the course of Art History through what is one of the most powerful instruments for the perception of human beings themselves—photography.
