Mary Heilmann. Past Present Future is a show of works by Heilmann from 1976 up to the present-day including painting, furniture, and ceramics. This includes a new body of paintings made during the global pandemic in her studio in Bridgehampton, Long Island. This preeminent American artist is acclaimed for her unique ability to deploy the analytical geometries of Minimalism with the spontaneous free-handed spirit of the Beat Generation, and for her weaving of pop culture influences into a wholly original and pioneering oeuvre. Heilmann has been injecting abstraction with elements from popular culture and craft traditions since the seventies, and many of these works subtly reference her favourite landscapes, songs and movies. This exhibition will also be accompanied by Heilmann's work entitled Her Life (2006), a digital slide projection of images, which chronicles her work with a musical soundtrack, resonating the same energy and vibrancy of the works.
