Press Release

In the foyer, we present a small selection of new work by Chloe Rose Taylor, spanning jewellery, object, and image. Taylor works by collecting, hoarding, and reassembling — shells, beads, pearls, plastics and metals collide in combinations that are bright, strange, and a little unruly. Rooted in the lived experience of motherhood, these works play with scale and sensation: a tennis ball becomes oversized and absurd, pearls cluster like protective growths, and sugary colours tip toward something more bodily, even slightly grotesque.

There’s humour here, but it’s edged with fatigue, obsession, and care. Things build up, press together, refuse to settle. In collapsing distinctions between precious and everyday materials, Taylor doesn’t just question value, she reroutes it, locating it in touch, proximity, and the odd logic of lived experience.

This series is supported by Creative New Zealand.
