Erin Wright employs a hyperrealistic style that echoes the uncanny precision and waxy surfaces of computer-generated renderings. Citing “indifference” as her guiding principle, the artist wields exacting control over her brush, making sure not to leave behind any noticeable strokes that betray her hand or presence. The paintings for ACK illuminate the discipline, restraint, and aesthetic curation inherent in both the cultivation of bonsai and the often-unseen grooming rituals of the modern bachelor. Wright posits that just as bonsai are shaped through guided growth and careful intervention, so too are individuals subjected to invisible structures of taste, identity, and desirability. The resulting forms exist in a state of continuous transformation, embodying a sophisticated blend of organic integrity and social performance.

Shiori Tono centers her practice on the fragility and elusiveness of memory by unraveling and reassembling strands of her own recollections. Drawing from both old family albums and photographs she has taken herself, the artist paints specific moments in her past, whether they be precious childhood experiences or poignant observations amid the mundanities of everyday life. As our minds absorb and accumulate increasing amounts of information, existing memories become buried, even fragmented—akin to the corruption of digital files. Tono engages with this universal experience by deconstructing snapshots of her personal history and resurrecting the pieces square by square; she gradually fills in a latticed canvas with miniature abstract compositions which, when viewed from a distance, coalesce into one distorted, yet strangely familiar image.
