Two Rooms is pleased to present a new large-scale wall painting by Dutch artist Jan van der Ploeg. Working against the affordances of existing built environments, van der Ploeg deploys an abstract vocabulary with tactical intent, pushing against the solid structures each painting is contained by. Taking shape as vibrant, tonal environments, each graphic intervention suggests alternate spatial schemes. A new edition of ten framed works on paper will accompany the wall painting.
Jan van der Ploeg (b. 1959 Amsterdam, Netherlands; lives Amsterdam) has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Recent exhibitions and site specific installations include Wall Painting 423, Kunsthaus Basel, Basel (2016), Blast, Taubert Contemporary, Berlin (2018), Delighting the World, Mies Van der Rohe Haus (2019) on the occasion of 100 years Bauhaus.
