Gary Kuehn: Box Piece / Häusler Contemporary Zürich
The gallery Häusler Contemporary Zürich currently presents the solo exhibition Gary Kuehn Box Piece. The centrepiece of the show is American artist Gary Kuehn's Box Piece, a crate containing are a total of 43 works on canvas and paper. Created as part of the Gesture Project which was begun in the mid-1960s, the 'Box Piece' was understood as the artist's manifesto, which he archived in the purpose-built 'Box'. It was last shown publicly in 1971.
Gary Kuehn was born in 1939 in New Jersey, US. He is an important representative of 'Process Art'. Since the beginnings, his artistic career is based in the use of simple forms, such as circle, square or triangle, in conjunction with his interest in mechanical and industrial materials. Gary Kuehn lives and works in New York.
