Eora/Sydney based artist Jamie North combines both natural and human-made elements within his sculptural works. His concrete and metal sculptures are combined with native Australian plants, which over time become entwined and create evolving living artworks.
Drift consists of nine large rock sculptures located along La Trobe Street at the frontage of Home Docklands. Each rock is modelled from blast-furnace slag or molten steel by-product that has a distinct volcanic appearance. Using 3D scanning technology, each rock was enlarged, 3D printed, then cast in bronze. The placement of the rocks responds to the natural topography site and the slow flow of water, which gently trickles from the artwork, serves as a reminder of the nearby Birrarung (Yarra River).
