Or their dark narratives that resonate with the deepest recesses of the human psyche? They have been included in an impressive repertoire of group exhibitions in recent years, including One Hand Clapping at...

Berlin, Boners and Brecht Ocula Report Berlin, Boners and Brecht 7 Jun 2016 : Diana d'Arenberg for Ocula

Apparently my timing sucks. One week too late for Berlin Gallery Weekend, and one month too early for the Berlin Biennale. ‘You should have been here last weekend for Berlin Gallery Weekend!’ a Berliner friend exclaimed. ‘Everyone was having orgies at Soho House! It was the best art world networking!’ I shifted...

More than a dozen Cate Blanchetts have shown up for our interview today. One, in a crisp blazer and stick-straight hair, is all business; another, wearing a draped turban and dark plum lipstick, is downright demanding; yet another, in a soft floral blouse and glasses, is contemplative, pious-seeming; a dirty, unkempt version unfurls with...

More than 50 significant manifestos from arguably some of the most brilliant artists and theorists of our time are featured in absurd or prosaic everyday scenes of contemporary life: a worker in a garbage incineration plant, a choreographer rehearsing with his dancers, a TV news anchor reporting the news, a punk at an after party. The discordance...

Walk into Park Avenue Armory this month and you'll be greeted by a cacophony of Cates. In one corner of the Drill Hall, Cate Blanchett embodies a scientist contemplating Suprematism and Constructivism as she walks the halls of a factory ripped from a Roald Dahl novel. In another, she plays a rotund factory worker musing about architecture. She...

Whether it's Karl Marx's prescient writings on communism or Guy Debord's poetic take on the Situationists, manifestos tend to contain explosive calls to action that jump off the page – they practically demand that you lead the Next Great Revolution. But in Berlin, artist Julian Rosefeldt's meticulously choreographed film...
