Rodrigo Matheus employs metaphorical assemblages of industrial design, architecture and natural materials to create installations, sculptures and collages that challenge ideas and assumptions we might have of certain objects. In the artist’s words: “I am interested in the circulation of materials in the world and the possibilities of meanings for those materials that are not restricted to those intended for their function, for what they represent psychologically, for the historicity or even for the power relations behind a given material.”
Rodrigo Matheus lives and works in Paris. He has exhibited extensively at international institutions, including Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2016); Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2015); Swiss Institute (New York, 2016); Astrup Fearnley Museet (Oslo, 2013); Bonniers Konsthall (Stockholm, 2011); and New Museum (New York, 2010).
