His work continues to exert an influence on succeeding generations of artists, somehow remaining vital to each younger generation despite Landers’s consideration of decidedly (older) generation-specific topics such as mid-career and middle-age crises. The vitality of this work consists in a spot-on honesty and humor which is tempered by the artist’s highly self-aware use of artifice; it is this delicate and precarious balance to which artists and a more gneral audience of any generation continue to relate.
