Zhang Qing, born in 1977, has been a key, if underappreciated, voice in Shanghai’s experimental art scene for nearly a decade. Currently he works and lives in Shanghai. The time since 2000 witnesses constant and profound changes in Zhang’s practice, as the artist bounced among motifs and styles, dabbling in gender-bending photography and humorous endurance-performance, and now develops a sophisticated videographic language for the creation of video, installation and mixed media works. Zhang Qing adopts various mediums and techniques to express his distinct concepts and thoughts of art.
