Zhang Qing, born in 1977, has been a key, if underappreciated, voice in Shanghai's experimental art scene for nearly a decade. Currently he works and lives in Shanghai. The time since 2000 witnesses constant and profound changes in Zhang's practice, as the artist bounced among motifs and styles, dabbling in gender-bending photography and humorous endurance-performance, and now develops a sophisticated videographic language for the creation of video, installation and mixed media works. After an undergraduate training in architecture, he participated in a number of the key alternative exhibitions of the millennial moment, including Trans Local Motion - 7th Shanghai Biennale in 2008, Shanghai Art Musuem, Shanghai (2008), Room without a View, Freies Museum Berlin, Berlin, Germany (2010) and cctv-Solo Exhibition of ZHANG Qing, ShanghART H-Space, Shanghai (2011).
