Independent has announced the lineup for its 16th edition with 37 newly joined galleries and over 118 artists showcased by 82 international galleries and nonprofit organisations.
Between 8 and 11 May 2025 at Spring Studios in Tribeca, the fair hopes to build on its history of propelling artists to new levels of recognition with a new initiative giving solo exhibitions to emerging talent in New York.
The initiative, called ‘Independent Debuts’, will this year spotlight 25 artists.
Additionally, a number of exhibitions will address sociopolitical themes like the climate crisis and Indigenous identity, while others will explore the enduring role of humour in art.
The ‘Established Artist Solos’ section will feature five exhibitions by Pope.L, Douglas Coupland, Michelle Grabner, Tseng Kwong Chi, and Rosa Barba.
This year’s curation is led by founder Elizabeth Dee and founding curatorial advisor Matthew Higgs, with Berlin-based advisors Alexandra Alexopoulou and David Ulrichs. —[O]
