Casey Carsel is a writer, artist, and editor based between Auckland, New Zealand, and Chicago, USA. They hold a BFA from the University of Auckland and an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and have been the recipient of a Fulbright Creative Writing Grant, a New York Public Library Short-Term Fellowship, and a Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Individual Artist Program Grant, amongst other accolades.
Between 2019 and 2021, Casey edited five editions of Plates Journal. Their textile artworks have been presented at galleries and fairs including Co-Prosperity, Chicago; Auckland Art Fair; and Blue Oyster, Dunedin. They have contributed artist profiles, exhibition texts, interviews, reviews, and essays for galleries and publications such as Ocula Magazine; Bus Projects, Melbourne; Newcity; Clark House Initiative, Mumbai; The Seen; Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Chicago; and Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago.
