We recently saw some great paintings by Antonio Obá from the Pinault Collection at Bourse de Commerce in Paris. Before Christmas, his first solo exhibition in Asia opened at X Museum—Beijing’s ultra-contemporary private art museum.
Founded in 2020 by art collector Michael Xufu Huang, the institution has since hosted artists Issy Wood‘s and Christina Quarles’ museum debuts on the continent.
Tackling the relationships and contradictions within Brazil’s cultural heritage, Obá’s wondrous colour palette and disarming compositions was picked up by Mendes Wood DM, who has since showcased Obá’s work in a run of solo exhibitions.
