For the first time, works demonstrating the artistic dialogue between Larry Bell and John Chamberlain are on view at Hauser & Wirth until 2 October 2022 in Los Angeles, showcasing the best examples of their experimentation, from Bell’s iconic glass cube sculptures to Chamberlain’s contorted plexiglass forms.

The two artists explored form, colour, and materiality together while sharing a studio space on Marine Space in Los Angeles, after Chamberlain relocated to the city from New York, later moving to a studio nearby.

Developments in the aeronautics industry in Los Angeles at the time greatly influenced the two artists’ works, namely the use of a vacuum deposition chamber to alter the surface of glass.
