We are thrilled to announce the forthcoming Solo Presentation of Kottie Paloma A Melody of Madness at Alzueta Gallery Turó Park. The exhibition marks the final phase of the American artist's time in the Alzueta Gallery Artists Residency program, where he has been working on his new body of work during the last month of March.
A deeply personal reflection of his experiences and inner musings, with a diverse palette ranging from everyday observation to the mystical and surreal, Paloma invites us to delve into the recesses of his imagination and his unique worldview.
Paloma takes us on an introspective journey through a series of paintings that capture moments and emotions rooted in his lived experiences. From his time spent in the picturesque Bavarian village of Alzenau to his reflections on the chaos of the contemporary world, each artwork is a testament to his distinctive perspective and his ability to blend the figurative with the abstract.
Inspired by his surroundings and interactions, Paloma offers us an intriguing glimpse into modern life, from his musings on human nature to his exploration of the supernatural and the mysterious. Through a variety of styles and techniques, each piece is a window into his inner world, where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur. From works grappling with uncertainty and chaos to fictitious portraits that delve into the essence of identity, Paloma challenges us to reflect on our own existence and our connections to the world we inhabit.
Born in Los Angeles, CA in 1974, Kottie Paloma has traversed the globe, living and working in various cities before settling in Alzenau, Germany. His paintings delve into the darker aspects of society with humor and poignancy, drawing heavily from 20th Century cave painting and archetypal symbols. Through a critical narrative, he tackles vast subjects such as politics and human behavior, creating works that challenge viewers to reflect on their own existence and connections to the world.
Paloma's series includes both abstract and figurative works, with exaggerated shapes and bold bodies reminiscent of animal mothers. Utilizing muddied color reduction techniques, his art recalls the rawness of the earth and the primitiveness of cave paintings. With each piece, he translates different realms into unique symbols within his abstract compositions, inviting us to contemplate the intricacies of life and society.
