Press Release

Cadogan Gallery is delighted to announce Richard Hearns’ new solo exhibition ’No Ruined Stones’, opening 3 September in London. In this new body of work, Hearns dives deep into the interplay between landscape, geologic time, the art of prehistory and human consciousness. Through these paintings, the artist explores the significance of human time, such a fleeting moment, amongst the vastness of geological and cosmic time.

I’ve been on a narrative ascent!

Now past the threshold I’m confronting a monolith.

It is something I recognise.

It goes way beyond the object itself - it’s moving - penetrating beyond space, time and causality.

Thats what painting can become - this completely transportive vessel.

And where do I go from here.

Always moving

It’s still entirely a mystery.

-Richard Hearns

Please join us in the gallery on the 3rd September between 6-8pm for the opening and do get in touch at info@cadogangallery.com to request a preview.

About the Artist

Richard Hearns paints in the wild landscape of The Burren Country National Park in County Clare, Ireland. Each painting is an extension of his physical surroundings–earth, sea and sky–materialising the artist’s experiences and memories of colour and natural phenomena. Born in Beirut and raised in Ireland, Hearns is deeply aware of the unique cultural backgrounds of both aspects of his heritage. Articulated in his abstract paintings, his experiences and connections with the traditions of these separate locations and cultures combine to form a triangular history. He endeavours to express his understandings of exploration, discovery and identity through the medium of paint.
