Press Release

Galatea is pleased to present Glauco Rodrigues: Devourer of Images, a solo exhibition honouring Glauco Rodrigues (1929, Bagé, RS – 2004, Rio de Janeiro, RJ). The opening will take place on Thursday, November 5, from 6 to 9 pm, at Galatea Padre João Manuel.

Featuring a critical text by researcher and art collector Ademar Britto Jr., the exhibition brings together 25 paintings made between the 1960s and 1980s, including works on public view for the first time.

Glauco Rodrigues made the formation of Brazilian identity an ongoing investigation, using humour and irony to question stereotypes and the construction of national symbols. In his images, historical figures coexist with beachgoers, carnival characters, and elements of fauna and flora, bringing together different eras and versions of the country.
