Galatea presents Mucki Botkay: Embroidered Paintings, a new solo exhibition by Mucki Botkay (Rio de Janeiro, 1958), opening on Thursday, November 5, from 6 to 9 pm, at Galatea Oscar Freire.

Curated by Tomás Toledo, the gallery’s founding partner, who also authors the critical text, the exhibition brings together 18 works made between 2025 and 2026. Created with thousands of glass beads hand-embroidered onto canvas, the compositions depict Brazilian fauna and flora in fields of colour that alternate between panoramic views and enlarged details.

The exhibition continues the artist’s relationship with the gallery, which began with Mucki Botkay: Imaginary Windows, presented at Galatea Salvador in 2024.

Following her first solo exhibition in Brazil, Mucki joined Galatea’s roster of represented artists, held her first international solo exhibition at Anat Ebgi in Los Angeles, and had her work acquired by the Museu de Arte do Rio — MAR.
