Press Release

BB&M is pleased to announce an exhibition of prints by Lee Bul. Adapting the themes and visual language of her oeuvre to this medium for the first time, the artist presents five new series of works on paper created at the STPI Creative Workshop, Singapore, that explore innovative possibilities in screen- and foil printing techniques, as well as the use of such unconventional materials as copper powder and iron filings. These works continue to elaborate on the forms and concepts in her renowned biomorphic sculptures and architectural installations that delve into the contrapuntal interplay between beauty and decay, technology and failure, utopian dreams and historical trauma.

The exhibition also coincides with the release of Lee Bul: In Her Words, a collection of archival interviews with the artist from 1997 to 2023. Edited by Harry C. H. Choi and published by BB&M Contemporary Art Books in a bilingual English and Korean edition, the volume provides invaluable insights into the workings of the artist’s mind and the evolution of her practice over a nearly four-decade career, ahead of the unveiling of her landmark commission for the facade of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in September of this year.
