Clare Woods The Grump, 2006 Enamel and oil on aluminium
274 x 732 x5 cm

Originally trained as a sculptor, much of Clare Woods’ work is an exploration of physical form.

This understanding of sculptural language and a preoccupation with forms in space, translated into two-dimensional images, underpins her pictorial practice. Just as Woods’ visual language shifts between representation and abstraction, precision and accident, she is also interested in how her paintings might take on sculptural qualities when realised at this scale, so that viewers cannot perceive the surface of the work in one take.

Exhibition history:
Clare Woods - Deaf Man's House. Chisenhale Gallery. London. 6 September - 16 October 2006.
