One of Singapore’s finest up-and-coming talents, Arron Teo’s works have been critically recognized and extensively exhibited.
His work fuses various elements of art, from the quirky colour-charged kitsch of pop art and comics to subtle influences of photography and fine art. Works such as Miss 36.7, Miss Society and Miss Branded, are a medium for the artist to address issues and social attitudes pertinent in modern societies.
Starting out years ago with illustration, Arron was inspired by manga, a Japanese form of comics. Aspiring first to be a comic artist, things took a slight turn when he enrolled in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, where he grew to develop a different style. Deciding then to combine his passion for comics with fine arts sensibility, Arron began to work on his own style. One of the first things created was Arron’s personal icon, Zhang, the cartoon-like figurine, which appears in various forms in his work.
Subsequently he participated in various competitions and events, ranging from portrait drawing to sand sculpting, photography, cartoon and comic illustration, actively exploring and expanding his artistic scope.
Short listed at the prestigious 2003 UOB Painting of the Year competition and finalist in the Phillip Morris Singapore-ASEAN Art Awards 2003, the iconic art of Arron Teo is to watch out for.
