Press Release

From October 29 to November 29, Alzueta Gallery presents Misteri d’una forma, an exhibition by Jordi Alcaraz at its Sèneca space in Barcelona, bringing together 14 previously unseen works. The exhibition coincides with the presentation of his work at The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse in Miami, marking a particularly significant moment in the artist’s international career.

Beginning in November 2026, Alcaraz’s work will be presented at The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, one of the most internationally renowned contemporary art collections. Founded by Martin Z. Margulies, the collection brings together key works from some of the major artistic movements of the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular focus on Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism, Conceptual Art, Pop Art and Arte Povera. It also encompasses a significant photography collection and one of the most important collections of Anselm Kiefer’s work in the United States. Within this context, Alcaraz’s work will be presented alongside that of Mimmo Paladino in a project featuring fifteen works by the artist, highlighting his distinctive approach to material, space and perception.

The relationship with the collection began last year, when a work by Alcaraz was acquired for its holdings, reflecting the collection’s interest in Arte Povera and in artists who explore material, the object and their potential for transformation. This acquisition has now led to a new presentation of his work in Miami, marking another chapter in a career spanning more than three decades.

Considered one of the most distinctive voices in the contemporary Catalan art scene, Jordi Alcaraz has developed a unique visual language at the intersection of painting, sculpture and drawing. He works with materials such as glass, methacrylate, mirrors, stone, ink, pigment and books, which he perforates, penetrates, displaces or alters to create works in which the visible is never entirely stable. Something emerges while something else disappears. A line can become a space; a hole, an image; a reflection, matter. Acting as a true visual alchemist, Alcaraz transforms materials to lead the viewer’s gaze beyond what is physically present.

The presentation at Sèneca thus enters into dialogue with this new chapter in his career. Two distinct contexts — the institutional scale of Miami and the more intimate setting of Barcelona, where Alzueta Gallery has been presenting Jordi Alcaraz’s work for more than 25 years — once again bring to the fore a constant in his practice: mystery. A powerful sense of attraction coexists with uncertainty, with the feeling of encountering something that reveals itself only partially and that, the more closely we look, the more it seems to conceal.

About the Artist

The artist draws an invisible line between visual poetry and conceptual projection, and proposes to the viewer an unprecedented, surprising and metaphorical relationship with the world. Multidisciplinary hybridisation, in which the speech of Alcaraz, emerged from the classical plastic tradition, meditating on volume, language and time through the use of certain materials such as water, glass, mirror, pigment, book or the stone.
