Cássio Vasconcellos began his career as a photographer in the early 1980s, developing personal projects which stand out by creating imaginary spaces and fictions from elements of reality. As a photojournalist, he worked at Folha de S.Paulo in 1988. He lived in New York in 1984–1985 and in Paris in 1989, acting as a freelancer. In 1990, he worked in the DPZ Propaganda studio.
Born in São Paulo, SP, Brazil, in 1965, Cássio Vasconcellos studied photography at the Imagem-Ação (1981). His works have been exhibited more than 200 times in 20 countries, in addition to integrating with his series ‘Noturnos São Paulo’ the select group of the book The World Atlas of Street Photography, published by Thames & Hudson, England, and Yale University Press, USA. He published books such as: Brasil visto do céu (Editora Brasileira, 2017), Aeroporto (2015), Aéreas do Brasil (BEI, 2014), Panorâmicas (DBA, 2012), Aéreas (Terra Virgem Editora, 2010) and Noturnos São Paulo (2002). He won several awards, such as: Conrado Wessel de Arte (2011); Associação Paulista dos Críticos de Arte (APCA) for the best exhibition of the year with the solo show Noturnos São Paulo (2002); Porto Seguro de Fotografia Award (2001); and Fundação Nacional de Arte (Funarte) (1995). His photographs are part of several collections in Brazil and abroad, such as: Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), São Paulo, Brazil; Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, France; and Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH), Houston, USA.
