E. Mervyn Taylor established new standards in design and illustration in New Zealand in the 1940s, and also contributed to an emerging spirit of nationalism through his drawings and prints of Māori mythology and traditional Māori life.
Taylor trained as a jewellery engraver and is represented by works in the collection of the Museum of New Zealand - Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington, New Zealand.
