Ogino Yuna
b. 1982, JapanBorn in Tokyo in 1982. Completed the graduate programme at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2007. In her painting practice, Ogino not only layers paint using brushes and painting knives, but also repeatedly scrapes or wipes away with cloth areas she has previously depicted, creating a complex and layered texture that captures the time spent engaging with the canvas. Her works, which often feature flowers and human figures as motifs, transcend individual representation. Flowers are depicted with a sense of floating, whilst figures are rendered with universal emotions such as love, life, and death, stripped of gender and age.
