Thania Petersen was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1980, where she currently lives and works. Petersen obtained a BTEC Diploma in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins College of Art in London, in 2003. In 2019, Petersen was awarded the Thami Mnyele Residency in Amsterdam, and was included in the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art’s AfricAsia Symposium. Currently, Petersen is the artist in residence for the 2021 Zeitz MOCAA’s Atelier Residency program.Solo exhibitions include: Thania Petersen Selected Works at No Mans Art Gallery in Amsterdam; Unraveled a commissioned performance at Afrovibes, Compagnie Theatre in Amsterdam; IQRA at WHATIFTHEWORLD in Cape Town, South Africa; Between Land and a Raised Foot at the National Arts Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, all in 2019; Remnants at Everard Read Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa in 2017 and I AM ROYAL at AVA Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa in 2015.
